Gotta Catch Em All
Hey everyone!
Week two has officially been completed! It was an awesome week haha. Things started getting competitive at the apartment when I whipped out the kendama and we started playing, and then elder Jones further stoked the fire when he pulled some Pokémon cards out of nowhere later in the week. We've been playing kendama and Pokémon pretty much every night after proselyting hours wheh we have time to get ready for bed, time to journal, or general free time, and it's been super fun. My journal is suffering, but I'm getting sort of good at the kendama so it's up to you decide whether or not that's a good trade.
We've also gotten together a lot as a district and zone, and it's been way fun! We do a lot of car washes for free just to meet new people, and those have been great. One of the elders named Elder Goodrich and I got videoed by some random Jewish girls while we were washing their car, so that was kind of strange. We weren't super stoked about those videos existing, but then I found out he also loves the Grateful Dead and we had quite the great time talking about Jerry Garcia and Co. for the rest of the carwash. So overall I'd say it was the best carwash yet. We also met for zone conference this week, and that was awesome. Our mission president is named President Farley, and he's the man. He's super funny, and he's way good at his calling, and his wife, sister Farley, reminds me of my mom, so I have loved getting to know her.
Along with meeting as a zone a lot this week, we also met some super cool new people! There was this one guy who just walked up to us in a park named Jim, and as we were talking to him he said "At first I thought you might be Marxists, and if you would've been I would've run home and grabbed my AR15 and then you would've been done for". Needless to say, he's quite the character. We gave him a Book of Mormon and he said he would read it, and we also set up an appointment with him tonight. I'm super excited to see how it goes! We're going to meet him at Whataburger tonight, so we're gonna get some Dr Pepper shakes and drop some knowledge on this guy.
Scripture for the week:
Ether 12:4 = Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.
We got to share this scripture a lot this week, since a lot of people we've talked to have had a lot of hot takes on the state of the world. Most people we've talked to are very discouraged with where they view the world to be at right now, whether that be the deep state controlling the government or Coronavirus being "fake", as one person put it. However, no matter how we view the world right now, we can know of a surety that there is a better world to come. God is looking out for each and every one of us, and he knows that we're having a hard time right now. However, we must have hope that it will get better, and we must remember that God is always willing to help us as long as we ask for it. As one missionary put it (however cheesy it was) "everything ever has always worked out, everything now is going to work out, and everything in the future will work out. That's just how it's always been, and that's how it will always be." Despite all our challenges, despite all our trials, no matter how wrong the world seems to be going, we can always take comfort in knowing that God has a plan for us, and that that plan is perfect. Because of Jesus Christ and His atonement, we all can have hope. Because of His infinite sacrifice, we all have the chance to return to live with our Loving Heavenly Father again, and we always have that to look forward too. He loves us, and He wants the best for each and every one of us. We just have to trust that He has our best interests in heart, because He is a perfect parent to all of us.
I love you all, and I hope you have the best week ever! Remember: THE CHURCH IS TRUE!
MISS YOU ALL!
