День Народження Місіонера - (Missionary's Birthday)
HEYO EVERYONE!
It feels crazy to say, but this is my last email from home! I'm officially two months into my mission, and now I'm leaving for the field FOR REAL! I'm so excited! My flight heads out on the 28th of September, and I really just can't wait to start serving the people of Texas and eventually, Ukraine. I already have such a love for all of them, and I cannot wait to get there! Elder Hasson and I are still at home for a layover week this week, but Elder Key already left and he is KILLING IT out in North Dakota. I have loved this companionship, and I'm so grateful I got to spend so much time with these two awesome Elders! I'm sad it had to come to a close, but you better believe we're kidnapping Elder Key from the Air Force Academy for a week when we get back. Looking back on my time in the MTC, I would not trade it for the world. I know I said this last week, but home MTC has seriously been such a huge blessing. I've grown so much closer with my family, and I have grown so much in my testimony. This experience has been one I will never forget, and I'm so grateful for all that I have learned. I'm also grateful that I get to learn SO MUCH MORE! The mission has been so awesome so far, and if any of you are thinking of serving one, I would 142% recommend. Also, another thing I've found out today: mission birthdays are actually pretty fun. Thank you all for the birthday wishes today! It really means the world! Looking back at the past 19 years, I'm so grateful for all the people who have had such great influences on my life, and as I looked through my email list today, I was stoked to see that almost every single one of those people are on that list! I'm talking about YOU *points aggressively*. Thank you all so much for the amazing influences you've had on my life! I'm so grateful for every single one of you.
Also: If any of you have any good workouts to help a skinny guy get less skinny and acquire some more poundage (in the muscle department) please, send them my way.
Today, I just have a short spiritual thought I wanted to share with you all. I was reading the Book of Mormon in 3rd Nephi this week while I was doing my personal study, which is the section in which Christ's visit to the Nephites is recorded. I thought it was so interesting how when Jesus taught the Nephites, He only had a limited amount of time, so He only shared exactly what they needed to hear. Among these were the doctrine of Christ, the importance of the Sacrament, how to pray, and many other things. Now, we all know these things are very important, as we talk about them a lot. However, there was one thing that Christ taught the Nephites that really stuck out to me... TITHING. How amazing to note, that one of the core principles of the gospel that Christ taught to the Nephites was tithing? Now, tithing is a very easy thing to overlook: I know this from experience. It's easy to dismiss it as something we just do because that's what we do. However, when Christ taught the Nephites about tithing, He promised them some amazing blessings if they would follow that holy law, and those blessings still apply to us today. First, if we keep the law of tithing, Christ promises us that He will "open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (3 Nephi 24:10). He then goes on to say "I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of you ground" (3 Nephi 24:11). When I read that, I was like "WHAT?!". The blessings of tithing are so great that we will not be able to receive them all, and if we pay our tithing, Christ promises to rebuke the very devil himself for our sakes. That is a pretty big deal. So, what do we do to receive these blessings? We pay our tithing. I know it may be hard at times, but if we pay our tithing, everything will work out and we will receive those amazing blessings promised to us by Christ. I testify to you that these things are true, and I invite every member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to pay tithing, and if you're not a member, I would invite you to read about tithing on churchofjesuschrist.org. It is truly is an amazing thing.
I love you all and hope you have the best weeks ever!
