Elder Calder Horsley

President and Sister Hammon, Our son, Elder Calder Horsley, was recently reassigned to the Germany Frankfurt Mission. We hope he arrived safe and sound. He's been serving in the Ukraine Kyiv/Moldova Mission for the past seven months. Prior to serving in Ukraine, he served for about nine months in the Texas Dallas West Mission. We haven't talked to or heard from our son since he left Ukraine, but we know leaving was difficult for him. He developed a great love for the people he taught, the Ukrainian members, his fellow missionaries, and his mission president, President Stratov. He felt the same way about his president and the people in Dallas and we know he'll grow to feel the same way about you and the other people he serves with in Frankfurt. As parents, we're deeply grateful for your leadership and readiness to accept and lovingly embrace these Ukrainian missionaries, especially Elder Horsley. Hey everyone! It is now 2:44 AM where I am, and I will not be sleeping tonight haha. Our mission is being evacuated and since Elder Hasson and I are the Assitants we're sort of running the show, which involves getting people on busses, fixing flight itineraries which are wrong, ordering new tickets for some missionaries, and fixing all the problems that pop up for all the missionaries leaving tonight. It's all good though, no one has died yet and everyone will end up where they need to be. Everyone has been reassigned, and I will be going to the Frankfurt Germany mission! Time to get on that DuoLingo grind I guess. I am so grateful for this incredible country of Ukraine and the time I have got to spend here. Hopefully I will be able to come back soon. Hello, what is up all Thank you for still reading these. I don't even know how many I have written, but it's a lot haha. We had a really good week! The new year was really fun. People go really hard in Ukraine. For some reason the New Year is a really big deal out here. Maybe it's a big thing in the United States too, I just never really went hard on New Year's when I was at home. But when I say it's a big thing here, I mean it's like a BIG thing. People have been launching fireworks for weeks know. The whole celebration begins with 1st Christmas on the 25th, then it culminates on the 31st/1st, and then there is second Christmas on the 7th. So that will be fun. A lot of people haven't really been super keen to meet with us at this time, but it's all good because it has given us a ton of time to find people. I really like finding. Hey everyone! In case you were wondering, Ukraine celebrates Christmas two times, once on the 25th of December and the next on the 6th of January. So it is still Christmas time over here. #powermove I hope you had a great week! We did too. I'm super bad at recapping, but here are all the highlights: - We had an epic ward Christmas party! We watched the Christ Child and played games and had a gift exchange. I would give it a solid 10/9 for sure. - I've eaten more food in this last week than I think I ever have on my mission (maybe in my life). Everyone just wants to give us stuff to eat, even when we aren't at their house. Sometimes we leave church with random treats in hand. Sometimes we leave with last minute lunch appointments. Hello my wonderful friends and family, Today I saw the sun for the first time in three weeks. It was incredible. Needless to say, I will not need to take my Vitamin D pill today. Hey everyone! I have officially taken more than 50 Uber rides while I've been in Ukraine. I am a gephardt approved Uber master. I hope y'all had a wonderful week! Mine was pretty stellar! I went to another country with my mission president, so that was sweet. We had a zone conference in Moldova (which is a part of our mission), so we drove down there in our mission president's car with him, his wife, and his son Nick. It was quite the ride. He's Australian, and when I asked him what was weird about Americans he said the words "sauce" and "horse" are supposed to rhyme in the English language.
